Traffic Lights

1. Students will be able to master some sentence patterns about traffic rules.

2. Students will be able to know some simple traffic rules and understand the functions of the traffic lights.

Through cooperation and discussion, students can talk about some simple traffic rules and recognize some traffic signs.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1: Warming up and lead-in

1. Daily greeting such as “How are you? What color do you like?”

2. Warming up: get students to line up and do the rabbit dancing moves according to the instruction of the music “Left-Right-Go-Turn around-Go, go, go”.

3. Lead in the topic by free talk. Point to the lights of the classroom and say “I like lights because I can see things clearly at night. Can we see lights in different colors in our city?”

Step 2: Presentation

1. Draw stick figures of three colors “red, yellow, green”. Get students to review the words of colors.

2. Present the pictures of the traffic lights. Get students to read the phrase “traffic lights” after the teacher and then say the traffic lights.

3. Present the traffic lights and do actions one by one. Guide students to know what they mean.

4. Write the sentence patterns “wait at a yellow light, stop at a red light, go at a green light” on the blackboard. Get students to read them after the teacher.

5. Play a game: the teacher say the orders, the students do actions.

Step 3: Consolidation

1. Present some signs. Ask students to look, read and match. And then check the answers.

2. Group discussion: Ask students to work in pairs and talk about how to obey the traffic rules.

Step 5: Summary and Homework

Summary:

Ask students to work in pairs and discuss what we have learned today. Choose the representatives to share. And then make a summary.

Homework:

1. Read the sentence patterns after the tape.

2. Tell the traffic rules to your parents and friends.
