Topological insulator(TI) is a new quantum matter with metallic surface state and insulating bulk behaviour.Due to its unique physical properties,TI is one of the hottest research topic in the field of condensed matter physics. The spin-polarized metallic surface state plays a crucial role for these interesting phenomena. Thus it is important to understand the influence of surface chemistry on the unique surface state of TI.On the other hand, the exotic spin-polarized surface state maybe can induce novel surface processes.Furthermore,by doping, defecting or gating, the electronic structure of surface state can be tuned dramatically, which indicates that the surface properties of TI might be modulated accordingly. Based on this interesting and promising scientific background, this project is aimed at elucidating the mutual influence of the physical and chemical properties of TI.It is expected that,by controlling the quantum state of TI,the surface chemistry on TI can be modified in a controllable way.By combination of material synthesis(molecular beam epitaxy),in situ characterization(low-temperature scanning tunnling microscopy and ambient-pressure X-ray photospectroscopy), catalytic performance test, we believe that some innovative progress will be made in this multidisciplinary field. This study will not only deepe
