The subfamily Chauliodinae (fishflies) belong to the family Corydalidae of the insect order Megaloptera, which is considered to be one of the most primitive Holometabolous insects and possesses rather significant systematic status. Because of the poor capacity of long-distance dispersal, the generic divergence and speciation of fishflies are prone to be affected by some geographical vicariance. Therefore, fishflies are a kind of good materials for the study of cladistic biogeography. Currently, the faunal component and diversity are considerably different among main zoogeographical regions, and the distributed patterns are apparently disjunctive. However, the evolution of modern fauna and formation of geographical distributed patterns of fishflies are poorly known. The present project aims to reconstruct a robust phylogenetic framework of fishflies combining morphological and molecular data from a comprehensive sampling and to reveal the evolution of endemic fauna and formation of disjunctive distribution by using molecular clock and cladistic biogeographical approaches in order to explain the evolutionary history of fishflies. This project will provide new evidence for the origin and evolution of insects, the faunal division, etc., and will play important role in the biodiversity conservation and sustainable ex
