The Cu/Nb high-strength nanocomposite wire reinforced with Nb nano-filaments is one of the excellent materials in the field due to their good electrical conductivity and high strength. In addition, The Cu-Nb wires show noticeably better mechanical properties than that calculated by rule-of-mixture (ROM) predictions when the size of the Nb filaments is reduced to the sub-micrometer range. It is important to study the strengthen mechanism to improve the properties of the wire. This proposal will use SEM, EBSD, XRD, TEM, HRTEM, HAADF-STEM, tensile test and nanoindentation to study systematically the microstructure evolution of Cu/Nb nanocomposite during accumulative drawing and bundling process, the influence of the microstructure and property of Cu matrix to the properties of the wire, the interaction between Nb filaments and Cu matrix and the fcc/bcc interface of niobium and copper, to develop the strengthen mechanism of Cu/Nb nanocomposite wire and establish the strengthen model.
