Wireless on-demand network systems and services have become pivotal in shaping our future networked world. Starting as a niche application over Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth LE, LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of upcoming networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, the Internet of Things, cloud networks, vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic networks, underwater and intra-body networks.  

The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and operate heavily resource-constrained devices, and how to develop robust and lightweight algorithms for self-organization and adaptation. Finally, there are many application-specific challenges.  

WONS, now in its fifteenth edition, is a high quality forum to address these challenges. WONS aims to provide a global platform for rich interactions between experts in their fields, discussing innovative contributions in a stimulating environment.  

This announcement solicits original contributions of high-quality research providing novel insights on all aspects of wireless on-demand networks and systems; from protocol and network design, modeling, performance evaluation, energy efficiency, QoS models and mechanisms, practical implementations, service level aspects, application use-cases, to the integration of multiple wireless network technologies.

Extended versions of selected top papers will be considered for publication on a fast track on special issues in Elsevier Computer Communications (COMCOM) journal.

We invite the submission of applied research papers to the 18th Annual Wireless Telecommunications Symposium, WTS 2019, which will be held April 9-12, 2019 in New York City, New York, USA.

The Wireless Telecommunications Symposium brings together industry professionals and academics from companies, governmental agencies, and universities around the world to exchange information on advances in mobile communications and wireless networking technology, business, policy, applications and security. Past WTS participants have included Dr. Vinton Cerf, Dr. Robert Kahn, and Dr. Leonard Kleinrock, Internet pioneers; Martin Cooper, “Father of the Cell Phone”; Dr. Irwin Jacobs, Co-Founder and Former CEO of QUALCOMM; and Mike Lazaridis, Founder and former Vice-Chairman, Blackberry.

The theme for WTS 2019 will be "Global Wireless Communications: Now and in the Future”. Planned highlights of WTS 2019 include executive presentations and keynote addresses; presentations of accepted academic and practitioner research papers; panel discussions; tutorials and workshops; a poster paper session; and a doctoral students’ session. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.” The proceedings also will be distributed at the Symposium via a CD. Awards will be given for the most outstanding paper presented and best graduate and undergraduate student papers presented. Some selected high-quality papers from WTS 2019 will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Telecommunications & Networking, pending their successful extension and an expedited review process.
